OTAKON RECAP TIME!
Friday: Christine picked me up at around 9:30am. I bought my costumes (Chi and Otacon), clothes, and random stuff for the road. We then picked up Tadas, and started our long trip to Baltimore. It was four of us in the car....me, Tadas, Christine, and her sis Sophia. Some highlights of the trip included Christine getting freaked out at random trucks, the 30-minute-iced-mocha at the rest stop, and..that's all I can really remember. We had to pick up Ben at the train station in Baltimore, so once we finally got there (around 2:30 or so) we found the train station and picked him up. Our next challenge was to find the hotel. Because mapquest sucks, we got HORRIBLY lost. Highlights of that included passing by "Gay St" which was immediatly followed by "Eager St". Yeah. We made our way to downtown Baltimore, by the inner harbor, passed the BCC, and found the highway to go on...after a little more getting lost, we found the hotel. And went in. Tiny room, but it worked...I put on most of my Chi costume, and then we drove to Soni's hotel so I could have help putting on the rest of it. After a while, we did, but the ears broke in the back >< But eh, it could have been worse. We got to the convention center close to 6pm...got our badges. Our first stop...hm. I think the dealers room. I picked up two t-shrits "I <3 Yaoi" and "Got yaoi?" because I thought they were amusing. Got three Trigun doujinshis and one Kenshin doujinshi at the yaoi booth (where the guy was yelling "GET YOUR RED HOT YAOI!"...lmao), and a yaoi paddle. Don't ask. I'll get a pic of it soon. XD Got some pics taken of me...hm what else. Dont think too much happened on Friday...we went to eat at Uno's, came back to the BCC, and then Tadas and I watched some eppys of Gravitation. It was great, room full of screaming fangirls. XP After it was over, we went back to the hotel. On the ride, Ben was introduced to the Avenue Q song "The Internet is For Porn". He fell in love. Let's just say we heard that song about fifty times over the weekend.
Saturday: Woke up early, got ready. Got into my Otacon costume. We ate breakfast at the hotel and headed to the BCC...got stickered for the L'Arc~en~Ciel concert. Went by the dealers room next, got myself some more Trigun doujinshi and a Mandragora plushie. Oh, and a MGS2: Other Side OST. At one point during the day (I can't remember when) we went to a convenience store in a small mall-type thing across the street...and just as I'm leaving, someone stops me and asks me who I'm cosplaying as. I'm like "Umm Otacon from MGS2" and he's like "Are you from GameFAQs?" and I nod and he's like "I saw your topics!" and I'm like WHOAMYGOD. Turns out he goes to LUE too. Freaky. Anyway. Later on. Tadas and I were hanging in the lobby..and then I spotted an Olga. And i'm like OMGYESH ANOTHER MGS2 COSPLAYER run up to her and start chatting. XD She's a MGS slash fan too, lmfao..although she doesn't care much for Snake/Otacon, tis okay! She's on the LJ group too...so I must talk to her. Then we spotted the FFXI meetup group. Including a Tarutaru WHM, a DRG, and two RDMs. It was great, chatting with other players...highlights included signs such as " <| Windurst |> blows", random seek party signs...it was fun. We met up with Ben and Sophia afterwards, and went on line for the L'Arc~en~Ciel concert. Long as hell line. We chatted with some other people on line and had a REALLY weird conversation about Pokemon...after a long time, we got into the area. Huge. We sat far back, but parallel to the stage. The concert started...and just. Omg. It was AMAZING. The group just rocks. There were some amusing quotes...will post at end of entry. After the concert, Tadas and I did some wandering around. I made a sign that said "Otacon seeking his Solid Snake. And while we're at it... Glomp the nerdy scientist!". I got a bunch of glomps...Tadas and I had split up, and I met up with him again on the 200 level. I then turned left and saw a Pliskin. In a box. Dancing. Nearly DIED. Started chatting with him, told him who I was cosplaying as, and he took a pic of us with his cameraphone. Tadas and I walked around some more...came back to the area...and now...A bunch of people were dancing in the cardboard box to the music playing nearby. Pliskin then started up a cardboard box chant...I seriously just about DIED. It was just...so...great. Tadas and I headed to a panel for the company releasing Gravitation here in America...it was cool and I got a t-shirt and a poster. After that, we were wandering down the hallway...and all of a sudden, I see a guy. With silver hair. Wearing a box. NOTHING BUT A BOX. And I'm like "....No. That CAN'T be"... I ran up, and yep. On the box was a sign, "Nekkid Raiden!". I'm like *SQUEE*, tell him I'm cosplaying Otacon, we chat for a while about the game, meanwhile I'm pissed I don't have a camera. Tadas and I then met Ben in the videogame room...and then as we were heading out back to the car, we bumped into Nekkid Raiden again. And Christine was there with her camera so I'm like YESSSSSSSS and I got a pic with him XD Went back to the hotel, ate noodles, went to sleep.
Sunday: Woke up around 9am. Slow morning. We ate breakfast again, dragged our stuff to the car, got caught in rain, then headed to the BCC again. Really, we just went to the dealers room...I got some more doujinshi (Fushigi Yuugi, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean) and the first two volumes of Gravitation. We said goodbye to the BCC and left. Dropped Ben off, and drove allll the way back to NYC...and here I am now.
