I was reading and old interview with Gary Beach that Mary sent me.
In rehearsal one day, Roger did his speech when Carmen says, "You can go out there a screaming queen and come back a great big, passing-for-straight Broadway star." The music was swelling and I just grabbed him and kissed him on the lips. The screams in the room were incredible. Mel Brooks was yelling, "Keep it! Keep it!" Then we realized that, in a funny way, not even Springtime for Hitler could top that, so we had to cut it. But we went there.
THEY CUT. THEM. KISSING. GRAAAAAAAAAH! I woulda killed to see them kissing. ;_;
And yes, Tadas, I am aware that there is a very small possibility that a certain other Broadway actor might be glancing at this. XP
