Jun. 18th, 2006 09:48 pmAnime NEXT con report time!
Emma and I arrived at the con center at around, oh, a little before 9am? The pre-reg waiting line was huge, but we eventually got in and got our badges (FMA badges FTW). Uh, let's see, wtf did we do Friday? We met up with two other of Emma's friends from her school and hung around....went to the dealer's room and bought a load of swag (swag report will be at teh bottom). Headed back to the hotel, whereupon we had a very long discussion about certain aspects of Roy in the doujin I had picked up. I mean, seriously, WTF. Needless to say, later that night, Emma and I decided to found the Church of Roy Mustang's Massive Cock. New followers are more than welcome. Be filled with the light of salvation. Ahem. But anyway. We went to a panel...I believe it was the FUNi one? Pretty cool. We might have done other stuff, but I can't really remember. We tried to get to sleep early. But the fucking concert's bass was so loud, and our room was facing the con center...I couldn't get to sleep until 2:30am. And we initially went to bed at 11pm. Urgh.
Saturday morning! First thing we did was...uh....y'know, I don't remember. Oh yeah. I got into my Miniskirt!Ed costume, and we went off to the FUNi girls panel. Much amusingness. Houston VA panel was after that, more amusingness. After that was the Risembool Rangers picnic, which was very nice. Had two cookies, a little Milky Way candy, and a raspberry. w00t. Vic told me that he did recording for a new FMA DS game...but he doesn't really know what it's about, only that a lot of the dialogue was the same as it was in the show. Could this be Dual Symphony or whatever the JP DS game was called, or a new game by that American company that picked up the rights? Who knows. We'll just have to wait and see. The Fullmetal Supershow was at 3pm, also very funny. Then we just kind of hung around until the FMA VA signing. Emma and I decided it'd be a great idea to get the VAs a gift, so we headed over to a nearby place and picked up powdered doughnuts for everyone (xD) and also raspberries for Vic. The line for the autograph session was long as hell, was waiting around for around two and a half hours, but it was well worth it. They loved the food ^_^ Vic laughed and put one of the doughnuts in his mouth, like in the doughnut story he always tells...hehe. He's such a sweetie. We caught a few skits from the masquerade, including one that included one of Emma's friends. It was Royai, but I still thought it was cute, plus they get major brownie points for using an Evita song in the skit. Next stop was the "Bad Anime, Bad" panel, which was an absolute riot. I need to get my hands on some of those titles, they were just so HORRIBLE yet horribly funny. We rushed back up to our hotel room just in time for FMA on [adult swim]. FLAME VS. FULLMETAL, BITCHEEEEES. We squeed and fangirled over the episode, ate raspberries, ordered some room service for a very late night dinner, and had a great time. The next two hours (until 2am) was watching some standup and an hour of Bad Santa. This time, the rave was going on, and once again, the fucking bass was too loud. -.- Oh well.
9am today was an event I never would have ever expected attending at an anime con. ...A prayer service. Vic and Caitlin were hosting it, and since I was gonna be up at that time anyway, I thought why the hell not? So we went. It was very nice, actually. I'm not religious but some of the stuff they said was pretty moving. All in all, a nice experience. Snagged some breakfast after that, then we headed back to the con center. We saw a bit of the Cosplay Chess, then went to the Lady Directors and Leading Actors panels. Attended some of the Squenix panel, then that was pretty much it.
List of comments/amusing events that happened over the weekend:
-Being attacked by a banana on Friday night. No, really. We were walking back to our hotel room when a guy dressed as a banana runs up to us, yells and flails around, then runs off. Right.
-Vic being...Vic, really. Actually, his antics deserve their own subdivision.
~If I hear that doughnut story one more time, I think I'm gonna go crazy. It's funny, but wtf I've heard it at least a dozen times XDD This weekend alone I at least heard him say it three or so times.
~"COLONEL MUSTANG IS DEAD SEXY. ...IN A MINISKIRT." He must have said that about...well, I don't remember exactly, but approximately eight times this weekend. Of course, I can't complain. He also said "Colonel Mustang is extremely attractive!" and during the cosplay chess, when a Roy got knocked out, he said in his Ed voice: "Colonel? Remember when I told you I didn't like you? Well, I meant it. ...but you're still dead sexy!". Oh, Vic. You provide us with such great fanservice and make our lives filled with joy.
~HE TOLD THE BOOB SIGNING STORY. I was dying to hear this one IRL. Cracked up like no tomorrow. Turns out there were TWO girls. One 16, one 15. And of course, Scott McNeil signed for both of them. XD
~Watching him throw raspberries into the air and catch them with his mouth is very amusing. XP
~One of the other VAs made him do one of his little car commercials (he does some commercial voice-overs). Said car dealership he was promoting? Niisan. I couldn't stop laughing.
-The FMA voice actresses are SO SWEET AND CUTE. Total girlcrushes on Laura, Colleen, and Caitlin. They're amazing.
And now, for the swag!
-Figurines: Play Arts Winry, Trading Arts Roy and Winry, Book in Figure Red (w/ Ed and Al!)
-Random JP anime magazine with movie!Roy and Ed on the cover. It was shiny. Stfu.
-Bromide pics of a couple of the characters...adorable little glossy pictures.
-Nice sized poster of Ed, Al, Roy, Hughes, and Armstrong that I got autographed by the VAs.
-Ed in a can. I think it comes with a washcloth and some other assorted things.
-Mini FMA stamps. XD
-A fanart of shirtless!Roy with his entire crew nosebleeding over him.
-A commissioned fanart of Roy and Ed. Basically, Roy molesting Ed, and Ed's got this "O_________O;;; ^_^;;;;;;;" expression on his face. Kinda like "Ummm...errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...uh...Colonel?".
And I believe that was it.
The con itself wasn't all that great, but I still had a nice time and seeing Vic always makes for a great weekend. Emma, much lobve, I had an AWESOME time being with you. Oh yes, I have to scan those stick-figure porn pics we drew.
I have a prospective job offer to help out with this online anime store called Animate USA. Their office is literally a few blocks away from here, so when I mentioned to the guy that I lived in Forest Hills, he asked me if I was looking for work. Hell yeah I am, so I'm gonna give the guy a call tomorrow and see how things go. A couple of hours a day helping around with shipping and such would be cool.
